How to Get to Gran Canaria, Canaries? – By Air, Ferry + Tips

Gran Canaria International Airport (LPA) is the main airport on the island and is located in the eastern part of the island, approximately 18 km south of Las Palmas. It is the fifth busiest airport in Spain, serving both domestic and international flights from major cities around the world.

From Spain

The Spanish ferry company, Naviera Armas, operates regular services between the port of Huelva in southern Spain and the port of Las Palmas in Gran Canaria. The journey takes around 30 hours, with cabins and other amenities available onboard.

Another ferry company, Fred. Olsen Express, operates services between the ports of Huelva and Santa Cruz de Tenerife, with a stopover in Gran Canaria. This service takes around 38 hours and includes comfortable cabins and restaurants.

From Other Canary Islands

There are also frequent ferry connections between Gran Canaria and other Canary Islands. The main ferry operators on these routes are Naviera Armas and Fred. Olsen Express. The journey times vary depending on the route and the operator, but generally range from 1-2 hours.

Cruise Ships

Cruise ships also visit Gran Canaria on a regular basis. Many Mediterranean and Atlantic itineraries include a stopover in Las Palmas, with some ships spending a night or two in port. The main cruise terminal is located in the Port of Las Palmas, within easy reach of the city center.

Getting Around


The bus network in Gran Canaria is extensive and reliable, making it one of the most popular modes of transportation on the island.
